They are not really that exclusive.they can always release more. I agree with Hittman.I don't feel that any of the "exclusive" production models are the best to collect. everybody should collect what THEY like, regardless of our opinion. If you buy a gun made in the 50's, 60's or 70's. They do a limited run of 200 three years later add 500 more, after that you'll see 350 more hit the shelves. Many companies re-introduce guns over and over. My new gun may be more unusual than ""rare"" but I'm enjoying finding out about it.Hittman wrote:I'd rather have guns that are already old than speculate on new production stuff. Now all I need to find out is how many KM77 RLP MkII's were produced in 7.62x39.

The only thing that was ""Distributor Special"" about it was that it got one of the alocated serial numbers for the distributor, Davidsons. I called Ruger and found that my gun was shipped in May of 1999, well after the 1000 'Specials' had been shipped and that it was a catalog item.

1000 were used in the 7.62x39 run and blocks of 500 to 1000 were used in other ""Distributor Special"" orders, and for standard production items ordered by and produced for Davidsons. 1000 total, all the same.īased on your information there were 8269 available serial numbers that Ruger had alocated to Davidsons for their orders. Thanks to good pricing and promotion these went fast and another order was placed with Ruger for the same SKU number and again 500 units. The initial order was for 500 units of one SKU number. I contacted Davidsons about the 7.62x39 ""Distributor Special"" and found that we were both on the mark.

Thank you for the serial number information as this has opened another window for me. Vaughn, thank you for your input and have a very Happy New Year! So, I'm still wondering and seeking answers. This begs the question, did the Davidson order specify the Rusky dimensions? In those days, you may remember, ChiCom produced Norinco and PolyTech 7.62x39 ammo was very cheap and I'm sure helped prompt Davidson in it's marketing decision. have brough me Davidson order M77 MkII's in the 7.62x39 chambering to have the bores measured. I have a couple of customers who, over the years. This was not an overly popular chambering and was listed by Ruger for only a couple of seasons which is what leads me to think that the little rifle is at least unusual if not ""rare"". The Lite Weight model - which is the rifle I have - was among those listed but not a part of the Davidson order. This order was placed with Ruger in the early ninties at a time when Ruger offered, or at least listed, the 7.62x39 chambering for some of the M77 MkII line. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.Īll of the Davidson guns, to the best of my knowledge, were standard weight 22"" barrel, right hand, stainless, Zytel stocked with laminated wood inserts.

Any information on how many were built in the Lite Weight configuration?. My questions are these Is this a ""rare"" rifle?.

I have never seen a Lite Weight in this chambering, though there are many things I've never seen. I have seen a few of the M77 MkII rifles put together for Davidsons in 7.62x39 and they have all been the 22"" standard barrel version with the addition of the wood panels in the Zytel stock. He didn't save the box for it either, ""they just take up space"". The rifle appears un-fired and the fellow I got it from told me he had never fired it ""because I never got around to getting a scope for it"". I have aquired an M77 MkII Lite Weight, Stainless Steel with Zytel stock, 20"" barrel chambered in 7.62x39.

I hope that one or more of you might help me with my latest addition. I've enjoyed Ruger arms for many years, mostly standard stuff but all very well made and rewarding to shoot.
